Visiting Hours

University Hospital for adults

Normal visiting hours at University Hospital, the UMMC hospital for adults, are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. seven days a week. Some areas may have limited visiting hours. Check with the nurse on the patient’s floor for specific visiting hours. Also, check with a floor nurse before bringing flowers or gifts to a patient. There may be restrictions on certain units or floors.

Batson Children's Hospital

Parents are allowed to stay 24 hours a day at Batson Children’s Hospital. Visiting hours for the pediatric intensive care unit are noon-7 p.m.; visitors under age 12 will be screened by the nursing staff as a health precaution for patients.

Visitors to the neonatal intensive care unit are limited to parents, grandparents and great-grandparents; no siblings or children are allowed.

ICU visitors

While rest is important for critically ill patients, family member visitation improves patient outcomes. For that reason, critical care visiting hours are set, but not limited to, as the following:

  • 5-6 a.m.
  • Noon-1 p.m.
  • 5-6 p.m.
  • 9-10 p.m.

Visitors to all critical care units must be over 14 years old. All visits are limited to two people at the bedside. However, they may come and go except in the incidence of procedures or other necessary patient interventions.

To stay in the waiting room overnight, visitors must have a 24-hour visitor's pass. These passes are given out by the nursing staff after the last visitation of the day and contain the date, patient's name, unit and room number. Due to limited space, only one pass per family is available.

Pastoral visits are allowed at any time and are only limited if special patient procedures are taking place. Family members who are ministers are asked to abide by the family visitation policy.

Visitation hours for the bone marrow transplant unit are open per patient request, with only one family member allowed to stay overnight.
