Children's Hearing (Audiology)

Each year in the United States, as many as 12,000 babies are born with a hearing loss. The cause of loss for many babies is unknown, and without testing, can go unnoticed during the first years of life. If hearing impairment goes undetected and therefore untreated, it will affect speech and language development, cognition, social and emotional development, and academic achievement.

If detected, however, these negative impacts can be diminished and even eliminated through early intervention, one of many services offered by Children's of Mississippi. Early identification of hearing loss is important, allowing families to make decisions about their child's hearing care and therefore their overall development.
