Children's Heart Center Volumes & Outcomes

We collect data on how many procedures we perform each year (volumes) and the results of those procedures (outcomes). This data helps us evaluate and improve patient care. Reviewing the volumes and outcomes data below can also help a patient's family make a more informed decision about where to seek treatment. The Children's Heart Center team is always happy to answer questions about our procedures, our outcomes, and any other concerns.

These charts provide data about the number and types of procedures Children's Heart Center has performed during the years 2013 through 2015.

Children's Heart Center Case Numbers 2012-2014 - UMMC

For complete transparency, the Children's Heart Center reports operative mortality as defined by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and reflects the percentage of patients who die while still hospitalized after surgery or after discharge within 30 post-operative days. This method is the highest standard of mortality reporting. Despite performing even the most complex operations, our Children's Heart Center outcomes compare very favorably to those published by STS.
