What is the minimum age to begin volunteering at UMMC?

All volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

Each hospital (Batson, University and Wiser) has a wide range of opportunities available. Refer to our overview of current listings and contact a volunteer coordinator for more information.

Are there weekend and evening volunteer opportunities available?

Evening and weekend opportunities are limited, but there are a few options. Contact a volunteer coordinator for more information.

What is the minimum commitment for volunteers at UMMC?

Volunteers are required to fulfill at least 30 hours of service each year.

What is the overall process to volunteer at UMMC?

  • Submit a volunteer application (mail, e-mail or deliver to Volunteer Services)
  • Personal interview
  • Attend volunteer orientation
  • Pass a background check if over age 18
  • Complete immunization requirements (TB test); those under 17 must provide a signed volunteer parental consent form and a copy of their immunization record
  • Have photo taken for ID badge
  • Complete required on-site training and/or additional requirements for specific volunteer opportunities
