Children's Hematology/Oncology

Pediatric hematology care at Children's of Mississippi incorporates a team of medical, surgical, radiotherapy and pathology subspecialists as well as supporting nursing, laboratory and social work personnel.

This team approach, led by a board-certified specialist, provides the various aspects of treatment and supportive care necessary for optimal treatment of children with cancer and hematologic disorders. The multidisciplinary team includes chemotherapy nurses, registered nurses, social workers, child psychologists, child life specialist and a pharmacist.

Outpatient care is provided at Children's Cancer Center, which was designed and constructed specifically to meet the needs of children with malignancies and other blood diseases (such as anemia, sickle cell and hemophilia) and is dedicated exclusively to the care of these patients.


  • Diagnosis, treatment and long-term follow-up of malignancies in children and adolescents
  • Diagnosis and management of bleeding disorders, thrombotic disorders and red cell, white cell and platelet disorders
  • Diagnosis and management of patients with hemoglobinopathies, such as sickle cell disease
  • Stem cell transplantation for patients with malignancies, sickle cell disease, enzyme deficiencies and other disorders
