The quality of care at University Comprehensive Stroke Center, a part of UMMC, is continually monitored and reported to the public. Below, our Stroke Center's quality results are reported and compared to "Get With the Guidelines" averages for Mississippi hospitals, academic medical centers (AMCs) and all hospitals.

Outcomes

University Comprehensive Stroke Center outcomes for the period of 2013 Q1 to 2014 Q1, included:

  • Eligible ischemic stroke patients who received alteplase, also known as tPA, to break up blood clots that cause strokes - 6.3% (national average is about 3%)*
  • Ischemic stroke patients who received treatment to open closed or narrow vessels or have a clot removed from their brain - 2.5%
