University of Mississippi Medical Center provides ophthalmology services and some of the most comprehensive eye care in the region. As part of the state’s only academic medical center, our ophthalmology program, including the University Physicians network, includes physicians and surgeons who perform everything from routine eye exams to advanced treatments for glaucoma, cataracts, corneal and retinal diseases, neuro-ophthalmology disorders and macular degeneration.

Our subspecialty-trained ophthalmologists allow us to treat a wide range of problems, regardless of a patient’s age or severity of condition. We have some of the most advanced diagnostic equipment and services in Mississippi, allowing us to provide quality treatments and outcomes for our patients. Our subspecialty eye care is vast, including corneal transplants and treatment of severe eye trauma.

We perform laser refractive surgery (LASIK), as well as laser treatment for diabetic retinopathy. Optical expertise also is provided for glasses and contact lens fittings.

All adults should have a complete eye exam at least once between the ages of 20-29, at least twice between the ages of 30-39 and every two to four years between the ages of 40-65, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. People older than 65 should have their eyes examined every one to two years. People with diabetes should have an eye exam every six months to a year or as recommended by their ophthalmologist.

We have two convenient locations in central Mississippi, including one on Lakeland Drive across from the main campus of the University of Mississippi Medical Center as well as at University Physicians – Grants Ferry in Rankin County. Both locations are equipped with optical shops for our patients’ convenience.
