The UMMC continuum of care is extended at Wiser Hospital for Women & Infants, a facility devoted to women as well as their newborns. Services include the University Center for Fetal Medicine, Women's Urgent Care Center, neonatal intensive care unit, labor and delivery, newborn nursery, postpartum unit and women's surgical suites.
A team of registered nurses and dietitians provide delivered patients with maternal and infant care and assist with breastfeeding problems. We also feature the state's only hospital-based enrollment program for mothers and babies who qualify for Women, Infant and Children (WIC) supplements.
We also are the only hospital in the state to have certified Lamaze instructors leading our childbirth classes. Our classes at Wiser Hospital and UP – Grants Ferry teach pregnant women what to expect during the birthing process. Each of the scheduled classes buildings on the previous class so we encourage moms-to-be and their support person to attend all classes to get the full benefit. Topics include labor and delivery, relaxation techniques, infant feeding/breastfeeding and much more.
