Children aren't miniature adults. They need comprehensive, compassionate care in a family-focused environment like that offered by pediatric specialists and Batson Children's Hospital, the state's only hospital devoted to sick and injured children of all ages.
The child-friendly approach to health care provides a setting not only to heal, but also to play, learn and grow. Pediatric specialists apply this unique philosophic approach to health care, whether it's helping a premature newborn, an asthmatic adolescent or a teenager continuing to struggle with a lifelong disability. Special surgical and critical care facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art and age-appropriate technology to provide young patients with the best chance for a healthy life.
Our pediatrics program includes general pediatricians, specialty care and support services for Batson Hospital and outpatient clinics, providing a continuum of care for the state's youngest residents.
Our children's hospital averages 9,000 admissions a year and nearly 80,000 children are treated in its clinics and emergency room annually. Patients come from all of Mississippi’s 82 counties to receive comprehensive medical care for everything from common childhood illnesses to serious trauma and life-threatening or chronic illnesses.
The hospital provides care in more than 30 specialty areas, including newborn medicine, pediatric cardiology, neurology and surgery. It houses the state’s only pediatric intensive care unit and emergency department along with Mississippi's only pediatric treatment programs for cancer, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, congenital heart defects and more.
